Every bride wants to be beautiful on her wedding day. If you’re planning a wedding on the beach, you’ll want to have the right products for a gorgeous, long-lasting glow.
- Don’t be routine: Brides often say they want a natural look, especially if they aren’t used to wearing makeup. With the reflective surfaces of sand, sun, and water, makeup that is too light results in a bride looking fatigued or washed out. For a healthy glow and well-defined features, choose bronzer, blush, and lipstick to warm your complexion. This is your wedding day, and while you want to look like yourself, this is the perfect occasion to glam it up.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff: Beach destinations are typically tropical, therefore hot! Your makeup needs to last through tears, sweat, and hours of fun, so choose the right products and layer them. A mattifying primer is essential if you get oily in your t-zone. Smooth your pores and minimize shine with Benefit’s POREfessional Matte Rescue. Traveling can sap the moisture from your skin. Restore it with Too Faced’s Hangover Replenishing Face primer, a great silicone-free formula with coconut water. Follow your primer with a long-wearing foundation. A classic favorite for full coverage is Estee Lauder’s DoubleWear (which comes in 37 shades). A value foundation with lightweight feel and even coverage is Maybelline’s new FIT Me Matte + Poreless available in 32 shades. Pro Hint: most prestige lines (Clinique, Lancome, Estee Lauder, etc) offer shade matching and free 10 day samples at department stores such as Macy’s – a great way to try the more expensive brands before committing, plus they make great travel sizes! Be sure to set your foundation with finishing powder, such as NYX HD Finishing Powder. Finally, use NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray or Maybelline’s Face Studio Master Fix Setting Spray to make sure your foundation lasts as long as the party!
- Cry if you want to: With the high emotions of the day, waterproof mascara is a must. Formulas vary in quality and performance. By a few and get your bridal party together to binge watch some of your favorite tearjerkers to test them out in advance. Among the prestige lines, Lancome is known for their mascaras, but my favorite is Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Extreme Waterproof. Too Faced’s Better than Sex Waterproof is another reliable option. Consider false lashes to further add volume and definition (there are many great how-to-apply videos on YouTube).
- Trust the professionals: Ask your wedding planner for recommendations for makeup artists and hair stylists at your destination. Prices will vary depending upon whether you go to a salon or enjoy the convenience of having the artists come to your hotel or venue. Find photos on Pinterest of hair styles and makeup looks you like and share them with your artist. Schedule a pre-wedding consultation or trial to talk about your preferences. Share photos of your dress, any hair accessories, and décor with the artist so he/she can make recommendations to flatter your style. You want to look your best on your special day and you’ve hired professionals to provide the other services for your wedding – why not pamper yourself with professional makeup and hairstyling?
