What’s the difference between a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Coordinator?
Generally speaking, a wedding planner will work with you from the very beginning of the planning process to choose a theme and color scheme, visit and negotiate with venues and wedding vendors, sample cakes, shop for dresses…the list can go on and on. Full service wedding planning involves planning every detail of your wedding and reception
Wedding planning can go on for a year or more and usually costs between 10 and 15 percent of your total wedding and reception budget. However, an experienced wedding planner will also have contacts and relationships with venues and wedding vendors and help negotiate a better deal than you might get on your own, thus saving you money in the long run! So, for some couples with a long planning timeline or elaborate wedding plans, a wedding planner can be a great investment.
A wedding coordinator, on the other hand, is not quite as involved. Some wedding coordinators work with you in the last few weeks leading up to your wedding to help you pull everything together after you have chosen and booked your venue and wedding vendors. Others specialize in “day of” wedding coordination – taking charge of your wedding vendors, setup, and decor, directing and assisting your guests, and taking care of the break-down, cleanup, and other post-wedding activities so you can just relax and enjoy your special day.
